Mr. Earl Brown

SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Mr. Earl Brown, 66, will be held Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Good Samaritan Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Gilbert Metcalf, pastor of Walnut Hill St. Mary Baptist Church. Interment is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2007 at Centuries Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Brown died on Friday, October 26, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born, December 12, 1940 in Shreveport, LA, where he remained a resident until his death.

Earl attended West Shreveport Elementary School and BookerT. Washington High School. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church No. 2. He was employed with Exide Technology, formerly Goulds Battery until his retirement on December 31, 2004.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Jelks; aunts: Lucy Johnson and Mercie D. Jelks; uncle, Foster Barnes; and cousin, Robert Pipkins.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Pearl Hollingsworth Brown; two sons, Carlos (Sarah) Brown, Dallas, TX and Rodney (Vicki) Brown, Ramstein AB, Germany; six grandchildren, 1st Lt. Nicholas Battle, Warner Robie, GA, JeMareau Nunn, St. Louis, Mi, Carlena and Carlus Deonte' Brown, both of Dallas, TX, and Viktoria and Quinton Brown, both of Ramstein AB, Germany; mother, Katie Brown, Los Angeles, CA; two brothers, John Jeffery Brown and Garland Brown, both of Los Angeles, CA; two uncles, Oscar (Katherine) Johnson and JB (Annie Mae) Brown, both of Shreveport; cousins, Caroline Jeffers, Jean (Johnny) Autrie, Eddie (Geraldine) Jelks, Oscar Johnson, Jr. and Danny Glen Johnson, all of Shreveport, LA; two brothers-in-law, Elbert (Etris) Roberson and Adolphus (Jeannie) Hollingsworth, both of Shreveport, LA and three sisters-in-law Doris (Meldon) Mosley, Delores Hines, and Dorothy Metcalf Hollingsworth, all of Shreveport, LA Good Samaritan Funeral Home

Auntie, I just want you to know that we are here for you. Earl will be greatly missed. I often think about his quiet mannerism, I used to think that he didn't talk. I don't know if you knew but we (Barbara, Robena, and myself) always describe Earl as pretty black. You and the rest of the family are in my prayers.
