What a special man and my favorite coach at Byrd High School. He was a leader that helped to make boys into young men. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and many friends.

I loved Coach Hamner ... he coached us in tennis in the summer at the old courts at Byrd, and of course was such a great teacher/coach when I was a student at Byrd. God bless you, Lesa...you are in my prayers.

Being a CRAZY Senior at Byrd, (class '72)my last day of school, I was taken to the Principals office to be informed that I would not graduate for my transgressions....squirting an underclassman w/ vinegar from a "squirtgun"....Coach personally came in the office and reprimanded the "Principle" on how I was an upstanding citizen and said that "this is what Seniors do"...He asked for my records and had serious doubts that I had even been suspended, ever...case closed, Coach Hamner had me to my 1st period class 3 minutes early...loved this big oooh lovable lug of a man...Tommy Adams

Coach Hamner was the best coach I ever had, and helped me in ways far beyond baseball at Byrd. My most sincere regards to his loved ones. His place in Heaven will no doubt reflect how special he was to so many of us here on earth, as our Good Lord knows.

Coach Hamner must have cut his teeth on me and many like me at Cotton Valley High School. His humor and his dedication to getting us to learn created a special place in all our hearts We could never have kept him in our small environment, but we are all richer for having him when we did.
RIP Coach..

Lesa, so sorry to hear about Coach. One of my favorite people. Every kid I've coached over the years, including my own, know about Coach Hamner and his humor, humility and caring way with the players and people he knew. There will never be another Coach like him.
