Eleanor Scroggins Obituary

Eleanor Scroggins

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Eleanor Scroggins, 87, entered eternal rest on Saturday January 11, 2014 at Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

She was born February 13, 1926 in Natchitoches, LA. Throughout her adult life she was a sacrificing, selfless, and loving woman caring for and mentoring many people. As a young adult, she entered the field of nursing ultimately retiring as head operating room nurse from LSU Med. Center in Shreveport. She also gave willingly of herself, caring for her mother and sisters as they advanced in years undergoing various illnesses. Eleanor was a gift from God as a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be greatly missed by all.

Her passions in later years were socializing and championing in friendly games of Scrabble, being a master at solving crossword puzzles, and looking forward to watching her favorite TV game show Jeopardy. In addition, she loved attending her church, Christ the King Catholic, and weekly Wednesday Bible study.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elva and Carolyn "Carrie" Childs Scroggins, as well as her sisters Nellie and Rose and her brothers Ellis, Elva Jr., Leonard, and Clarence, and best friend Frances Pingrey.

She is survived by two brothers and their wives: Curtis J. and Kathleen Scroggins, and Donald R. and Sondra Scroggins. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held Wednesday January 15, 2014 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home (Hwy. 80, Haughton) from noon to 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service, officiated by Father Rothell Price, and subsequent burial at Hill Crest.

Miss Scroggins was a superb nurse and OR Supervisor. My father, brother and I had the pleasure of knowing her at CMMC. She ran the OR like a "tight" ship.... the way it is supposed to be. I admired her dedication, her willingness to teach (even young physicians) and her undying concern for the surgical patient. She was instrumental to the maturation of many nurses and doctors.
