Jackie was born in Monroe, LA on September 19, 1933, to Highley Jack and Lorene Lawhon Bomar, and began her eternal life on March 18, 2017, following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Victoria Fox. She is survived by her Husband of 64 years, William "Dan" Barr; Son Bruce Barr and wife, Dawn; grandchildren, Madison and Madeline Barr, Brittany and Ashley Nicole Fox; great-granddaughter, Angelita Loraine Fox; sister and brother-In-Law, Mary Beth and Dr. Fred Willis; fur baby, Sophie; along with many more relatives and friends.

Jackie graduated from Bossier High School in 1951 and began classes that summer at Centenary College, Shreveport, LA where she was elected "Miss Centenary" in 1952 and "Most Beautiful in 1953 and 1954. She was chosen ROTC Lt. Col. in 1954 and graduated that year with a BS degree. At age 19, she began her teaching career at Fair Park High School and Woodlawn High School. She continued her education at Northwestern State University receiving her Master's in Education, became a National Licensed Professional Counselor, and was appointed to Byrd High School in 1964 as Guidance Counselor. Upon retirement Jackie returned to work and served as College Counselor at Loyola College Prep. Upon her second retirement, Jackie set out to help make the world a more beautiful place and became a very successful BeautiControl cosmetic consultant until recently when her health began to decline.

Jackie was a member Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Chi Omega Sorority, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, and P.E.O.

None of Jackie's accomplishments gave her more joy than spending time with her "Grand's" whether it was time spent with them on the houseboat on Lake Bistineau, shopping in Dallas, or attending their graduation ceremonies; she reveled in their accomplishments and they were her inspiration and joy. She has left an engraving on each of their hearts with her sweet, unconditional, non-judgmental LOVE.

Honoring Jackie as pallbearers will be Madison Barr, Dr. Spence Willis, Scott Willis, Chris Willis, Dana Bruhnke, Chad Fangue, and Pete Steed. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Fred Willis, Jack Daniel, Sammy Booras, Keith Register, B.L. "Buddy" Shaw, Leo Sanford, and Preston "Butch" Bennett.

Mrs. Barr was my typing teacher at Fair Park during my junior year. She and I would talk sometimes before or after class. I truly admired her - she was beautiful inside and out. She had compassion, encouragement, and one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen. I loved her and most of all respected her. My thoughts and prayers will be with her family during this time. May their memories bring them peace and comfort.

The loss of Jackie Barr brings back memories of Fair Park High School back in the late 50's. Mrs. Barr was not only an excellent teacher but a really good person. She was a great listener and always had time to hear silly problems of a teenager. She will always remain in my memories. And my thoughts and sympathies go out to her family.
