SHREVEPORT, La - Services will be conducted at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel for Linda O'Bier Thigpen, age 91, on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 3:00 pm. Officiating the service will be Dr. Mike Anderson and Bro. Wayne Reeves of Springhill, LA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 15 from the hours of 6:00-8:00pm at Centuries Memorial.

Linda was born January 28, 1922 to the Honorable J.F. O'Bier and Katie Adkins O'Bier . She attended grade school and high school in the community of Shongaloo. She received a BA Degree from Northwestern State University in January, 1944. Her teaching career of 48 years included Beauregard, Webster, Caddo, Orleans and East Baton Rouge parishes. She loved being a preacher's wife. Every community that she taught she worked in the local Baptist Church teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir, teaching GAs and RAs. In the summer of 1964, she and her family spent 10 weeks in New Mexico teaching Bible Schools and helping with revivals as a Summer Missionary under the auspices of the Home Mission Board.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Hon J.F. and Katie O'OBier; her husband, Bro. Edwin Thigpen; grandson, Jonathan E. Thigpen and sisters Mildred O'Bier Burns and Irene O'Bier Swan.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Lola Thigpen Smith and husband Joe Dale Smith Sr.; sister, Lavinia O. Walker; nephews, Luther and Marceline Swan of Kilgore, TX, Edward Walker and Jean of Winnfield, LA, Dr. William E. and Candi Swan of Corpus Christie, TX, Howard and Robyn Walker of Anderson, TX, Glenn Swan of Kilgore, TX, George and Terry Walker of Atlanta, GA, Kerry and Elaine Burns of Minden, LA, Henry and Lynette Burns of Haughton, LA and A.J. and Jo Lynn Burns of Monroe, LA. She is also survived by her college roommate and teacher friend, Eloise Cason of Plain Dealing, LA.

Honoring Linda as pallbearers will be her nephews Luther Swan, Edward Walker, Howard Walker, George Walker, A.J. Burns Jr. and Henry Burns.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. William E. Swan, John Cox, Kerry O. Burns, K. David Burns, Rudolph Thigpen, Elwyn Anthony and Glenn Swan.

The family gives their special appreciation to Gamble Hospice and the Caddo Council on Aging for their loving care and assistance.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Lottie Moon International Missions or missions of the donor's choice.
