Quinn Dillard Obituary

Quinn Bobo Dillard

BENTON, LA - Quinn Bobo Dillard passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the age of 78. Services will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church in Bossier City on Friday, April 3, 2009. Visitation begins at 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.

Quinn was born on February 2, 1931 to Samuel M. and Nellie May Dillard in Birmingham, Alabama. He was an all-star basketball player at Phillips High School, and later attended Auburn University where he earned a BS degree in Business. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years, and then relocated to the Shreveport Bossier area where he lived for the rest of his life. He worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years and was the founder of Money Mart Premium Service Company.

He was a board member of the South Shreveport YMCA, a member of the Toastmaster's Club and the Shreveport Sports Foundation, and received many awards throughout his career. Mr. Dillard coached numerous championship youth baseball and basketball teams. He was a regular blood donor for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Shreveport for many years before recently joining St. George's in Bossier City.

In 1979, Quinn married Laura Rebecca Rainbolt, who never left his side from that moment on. He could tell a story like no one else and had an unparalleled sense of humor. He was always ready to help anyone that needed it. He loved big band music and actually had a pretty good singing voice. He was generous, funny, smart, dedicated, and loved life. He would want to see us all celebrating who he was with a hearty laugh and a good joke. He will be missed.

Mr. Dillard is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca; son Timothy Dillard, wife Kim and grandchildren Christopher, Henry and Katherine of Houston, TX; daughter Lorraine Edwards, husband David and grandchildren Samuel and Quinn of Princeton, NJ; sister-in-law Dorothy Dillard, niece Dottie, nephew Mike and great-niece Sarah, all of Atlanta, GA.; step-daughter Sandy Currier and husband Brad of New Roads, LA; granddaughter Doughty Varnedoe, husband Scott and great-grandchildren Parker and Grayson of St. Francisville, LA; granddaughter Courtney Wilson of Skagway, AK; granddaughter Ashley Mullens and husband David of Baton Rouge, LA.; stepson Mike Fuller and wife Stacy of Matthews, NC; granddaughter Megan Frye and husband Chris of Haughton, LA; stepson Craig Fuller of Austin, TX.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. George's Episcopal Church in Bossier City.

Becky..
It was a joy for me to know Quinn... and have the privilege of working with him for many years. I will always remember his willingness to help others. He would visit in my office for a "few minutes" that usually turned into 30 minutes at least.... I will miss my friend. He was definitely a "true gentlemen". He meant alot to me and my family. And we KNOW that we will see him again one day... Our prayers are with you. Take care of yourself and let us know if there is anything we can do for you..

Dear Becky and Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Quinn was a unique individual who left many people with humorous stories to tell. My earliest (and fondest) memory happened in 1975 when I was moving from Shreveport to New Orleans. Quinn (a very new acquaintance) offered his help in loading the UHaul truck. I was a bit puzzled that he showed up dressed in a business suit complete with tie. When questioned about his attire, he informed me that he was "a gentleman mover" and proceeded to help load the truck! I'll miss him, too. Love you,

I met Quin during the early 60's when he worked for Maryland Casualty Company and over the years he never seemed to change, always that wonderful sense of humor and that smile. He will be missed.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Quinn Bobo Dillard our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Quinn. And to Quinn it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Navy. Quinn, we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Quinn’s family and loved ones.
