Robert Larry "R.L." Slack, Jr.



Leton, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Robert Larry "R. L." Slack, Jr., age 89, will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, August 15, 2014, at the Evergreen Union Church, Evergreen, LA, with Bro. Floyd Stratton officiating and Patrick Hampton assisting. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral

home.

Mr. Slack was born on February 16, 1925 to Robert Larry Slack, Sr. and Julia Irene Lewis Slack in Minden, LA and passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in Homer Memorial Hospital. He was a former member and deacon of the Old Union Baptist Church, Leton, and a member of the First Baptist Church, Minden the last 29 years. He retired from Morton-Thiokol, Minden and worked for International Paper Co. in Springhill for 32 years. He was a member of the Dorcheat Masonic Lodge #276 F&AM for 68 years; he served on the Webster Parish Police Jury from 1972 - 1984 and was a cattle farmer.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Slack Thomas and husband, Tollie Joe,and Ginger Slack Smith both of Leton, LA; son, Robert Bruce Slack of Bossier City, LA; three grandchildren, Elita Thomas McRae and husband, Kent of Bonita Springs, FL, Robert Edward Thomas of Homer and Richard Matthew Smith of Leton, LA; his wife, Barbara Smith Slack of Minden. Mr. Slack was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 40 years, Mary Elizabeth Childs Slack.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Smith, Kent McRae, Tollie Joe Thomas, Jimmy Benefield, Paul Farrington and Patrick Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Baptist Church, Minden, Men's Sunday School Class.

The family wishes to express love and appreciation to his dedicated caregivers, Sharon Morgan, Bobbye McDaniel and Patrick Hampton. Special Thanks to the staff at Homer Memorial Hospital, Claiborne Rehabilitation, Dr. Mark Haynes, Dr. Scott Haynes, Dr. L. D. Ezell and Dr. Clint Butler.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home or the Claiborne Health Care Foundation.
