Sharon Alexander Obituary

Sharon B. Alexander

Sharon B. Alexander, 63, left this world too soon and went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2020, following complications from a fall several months before her death. The family is planning a celebration of her life with details to be determined.

Sharon was born on November 18, 1956 in Fort Huachuca Arizona, first-born daughter of five children, to parents Betty J. Pace Bratton and Ellis C. Bratton. When Sharon was six, the family opted for small-town life on the banks of the Ouachita River, and moved to Columbia, LA, where Sharon was raised alongside her 4 siblings.

Sharon graduated Caldwell Parish High School in 1974. She set off to Northeast Center of LSU (now known as University of Louisiana-Monroe), and in 1978, became the first member of her family to graduate college. She stayed in Monroe for Pharmacy school and worked a few jobs in retail pharmacy. Her next adventure took her to Shreveport, LA, where her son L. Loe Hornbuckle was born in 1982. In Shreveport, she focused her pharmacy career on working in a hospital setting, eventually becoming the Director of Pharmacy for the entire Willis Knighton Health System. As her career flourished, she accepted a new challenge in 1998 at Omnicare, where she met and worked with her husband, Larry Alexander. Larry and Sharon were wed on May 28, 2005. Larry, like Sharon, had a child from a prior marriage, and Sharon raised Corey Lynn Alexander as though he was her own.

In 2009, Sharon retired, spending her days with Larry and Corey. She was a voracious reader and especially loved fiction. She loved road trips and exploring with Larry, and never missed a chance to take their traditional photograph with an ice cream cone. Sharon found a sense of purpose in tending to the plants in her small but sturdy garden. Sharon enjoyed watching television with Larry, seemingly never missing a big football game, and always making time to text her son Loe to ask if he had "just seen that play," usually some epic touchdown or fumble by the Dallas Cowboys. Sharon loved and lived with intensity and was a devoted wife, beloved mother, and cherished friend.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Betty J. Pace Bratton and Ellis C. Bratton and her sister, Carol J. Bratton Poole. She is survived by her husband, Larry G. Alexander Jr.; her sons L. Loe Hornbuckle and Corey Lynn Alexander; and her siblings, Jackson B. Hill, Mary A. Bratton, and Betty K. Green.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the paramedics from the Shreveport Fire Department, hospitals Willis Knighton and Oschners, Dr. Russell Carr, and her lifelong friend, Paula Rice, for their respective roles in helping care for Sharon over the last several years.

Reflecting today on those Shreveport days at Willis Knighton and on those friends by whom my life was blessed, Sharon, you came to mind. I looked you up and found this. So sad.
