The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Dr. Thomas W. Pope, Jr. our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Dr. Pope. And to Dr. Pope it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving as a dentist in the U.S. Navy. Dr. Pope, we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,307 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Dr. Pope’s family and loved ones.

I have known Dr. Pope for the years I have been Activity Director for Assisted Living at Montclair Park He was always a joy to be around and to see that sweet smile of his. When we were lucky and got to hear him sing he gave me chill bumps! I'm sorry for your loss but Dr. Pope is in heaven now singing with our Lord.

Dr. Pope was a dear family friend and my favorite dentist. I was instructed by his many words of wisdom and serenaded at the same time in his dental chair. What a wonderfully kind and encouraging man of God. Sing on, Dr.Pope. I know the heavenly choir saved you a seat.
My prayers are with the Pope Family.

Dr. Pope was my mother-in-law's next door neighbor at Montclair Park. They shared many meals together. He was such a pleasure. We will miss seeing him when we visit. You were blessed to have such a sweet and loving father.
