Alba Rose Caruso

1932 - 2021

Alba Rose Caruso Talented artist, loving grandmother Alba Rose Caruso (nee Tuzzolino) was born March 16, 1932 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She passed away May 29, 2021. At a young age Rose mastered the piano and began to draw and paint. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed writing poetry. Rose graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in 1950 and then attended Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. After college Rose became a piano teacher. She met her future husband in the neighborhood when they were teenagers. They married in 1956 at St. Frances De Chantal Church. In 1971 she opened "Alba's Art Boutique" and was known for her oil paintings, pottery, jewelry, and custom designed pillows. In 1998 Rose moved with her husband to New Dorp, S.I. She was a consummate cook and carried on her family traditions. She was the perfect grandmother, always ready to lend an ear. She leaves behind a collection of beautiful artwork which our family will cherish for generations to come. She was the family's inspiration for creativity, raising two generations of artists, musicians and poets. An exhibition of her art work is being planned. She is survived by her son Peter Caruso, her daughters Victoria Caruso Droumbakis, Leticia LaGrua Pombano, Wanda Caruso, Noele Caruso, her daughter-in-law Ann Caruso, her sons-in-law Mark Droumbakis and Vito Pombano, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. A Mass was held at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church. She was laid to rest in Green-Wood Cemetery, Park Slope. Arrangements were by Hanley Funeral Home.
