Loved being with family, served in the Navy for 9 years Andrew Stephen Ernst, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away unexpectedly on April 6, 2022, at the age of 55. The family is deeply saddened by his sudden passing. Andrew was born on January 10, 1967 to Jeffrey and Alberta Ernst in Brooklyn, New York. The family lived in Staten Island, where Andrew grew up and remained until deciding to enlist and serve our country in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he appreciated the opportunity to experience other parts of the world, including 4 years stationed in the Philippines. Following 9 years of service in the Navy, Andrew decided to switch gears and further pursue his education. He enrolled at New York University where he achieved a degree in Accounting. Following his graduation, Andrew embarked on a successful career as an accountant and later joined Thomson Reuters, where he worked as a tax professional for the last 14 years of his career. In 2002, Andrew met the love of his life, Annie, at a party. They had an instant connection and soon fell in love. Andrew and Annie dated for several years before getting married and forging a life together in Brooklyn, where they continued to live until Andrew's passing. Andrew was a family man. He was consistently a source of strength, support, and joy for Annie, and always made sure to look out for her. They enjoyed many good times with Andrew's parents and sisters, who always lived nearby, and with whom he always remained close. Andrew also formed a close bond with Annie's family and celebrated countless birthdays and holidays with them. He would light up around children and doted on his nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Everyone who knew Andrew understood that he was an extremely kind, loving, gentle and peaceful person, and that he loved his family very much. He is survived by his wife, Annie Blumberg of Brooklyn, NY and his parents, Jeffrey and Alberta Ernst of Staten Island, NY. He also leaves behind sisters Janet Nieto of Staten Island, NY and Dana Santos of Staten Island, NY, and 12 nieces and nephews. He will forever be in their hearts and missed every day. The graveside funeral will be held on Monday, April 11 at 10:00 AM at Moravian Cemetery in Staten Island, NY. Shiva will be observed on Tuesday, April 12 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the Community Room at Congregation Beth Elohim at 274 Garfield Place (at 8th Ave) in Park Slope, Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation in Andrew's memory, the family requests donations are made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
