Anne Mensing Obituary

Staten Island native; devoted wife and mother, 95 Anne Bernadette (nee Kneeshaw) Mensing of Piscataway, New Jersey, age 95, died at home on November 28, 2021 after a brief illness. Mrs. Mensing was born to Thomas and Annie Kneeshaw of Midland Beach, Staten Island, New York on July 5, 1926. She was a 1944 graduate of New Dorp High School, and graduated from Hunter College in 1948 with a B.A. in music. Growing up, Mrs. Mensing was active in her home church, St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church in Midland Beach, and served there as organist and choir director during her college years. After marrying and moving to New Jersey, she was a devoted wife and mother, actively supporting her husband's career and her children's activities. She was a contributing member of the PTA, a Brownie Scout leader, and never missed any of her children's performances or games. In addition to her devotion to husband and family, Mrs. Mensing was an elementary music school teacher in Piscataway, New Jersey until her retirement in 1974. Mrs. Mensing was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, Edwin F. Mensing, her sister Julia Hayes, and her brothers Thomas and John Kneeshaw. She is survived by her children Suzanne Westberg (Eric) of Piscataway, New Jersey, Carol La Spina (Fred) of Penn Laird, Virginia and Chris Mensing (Martha) of Salem, South Carolina, eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 28 S. 4th Street, Fords, NJ 08863 on December 4, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mrs. Mensing's memory be made to Visiting Nurse Association Health Group (Health and Hospice), 23 Main Street, STE D1, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733 (www.vnahg.org ) or to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
