Costantino N. Licastri

1937 - 2023

Grandfather of five, lifelong carpenter, former Islander, 85 Costantino N. Licastri, 85, of Iselin, NJ died on Monday, January 2, 2023, with his loved ones by his side. Costantino, also referred to as 'Gus' was born in Staten Island, NY to the late Joseph Licastri and Katherine Sinibaldi. He had lived in Edison prior to residing in Iselin for the past 28 years. Costantino started working at a young age delivering bread for the family-owned bakery "Licastri's Bakery" located in Staten Island where he grew up. Gus had a talent for racing motorcycles where he won multiple trophies and set records. Gus spent a short while as an industrial arts substitute teacher in the New York school systems, but his passion was carpentry where he was self-employed as a carpenter his whole life. Gus was a master of being able to restore or build something from scratch. The final piece was always a work of art. Once retired Gus enjoyed walks in the park with his wife Vera and spending time with his grandchildren who he loved and adored. Costantino was a communicant of St. Cecelia's Roman Catholic Church in Iselin. He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Vera (nee Orsini) Licastri in 2018; his brother, Vincent Licastri, Joseph Licastri and his sister, Nancy Libertore. He is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Dellavalle and her husband, William and Donna Kittel and her husband Martin all of Iselin; 5 grandchildren, Jacqueline, Christian, Russell, Alfred, and Alyssa; and brother, Philip Licastri. The funeral will be held on Friday, January 6th at 9:30 am from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 1225 Green Street & Cooper Avenue, Iselin. It will be followed by a 10:15 am Mass of Christian burial in St. Cecelia's RC Church, Iselin. Entombment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm.
