1953 - 2021

September 2, 1953 - November 2, 2021 Born in Manhattan, Debbie was raised in Hoboken, NJ, and loved to share stories of her childhood in Hoboken with family and friends. In 1984, she and her family relocated to the Grant City section of Staten Island, NY where she resided until her passing. She became a registered nurse that same year, dedicating almost 30 years of her life to healing until her retirement in 2012. Debbie was a devout Catholic who attended church weekly and served as a lecturer and Eucharistic Minister at St. Christopher's Parish. A childhood athlete, she gave back to the community by dedicating her time and energy to youth sports serving as the Director of St. Christopher Sports Committee for over ten years. She loved laughing, spending time with all of her grandchildren and watching NY1. She was a loving wife and mother and an amazing grandmother who always put family first. She is survived by a large family including her devoted husband Gus, her children: Michael, Danielle and Adam; 5 grandchildren: Sean, Aurelia, Chloe, Peyton, and James; 4 siblings: Loretta DeWaters, John Murphy, Colleen Regan and Gerard Murphy; countless cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and all of her in-laws whom she considered family from the moment she met them. Her heart was unlimited in its capacity to love. She is pre-deceased by her mother and father, Eileen and Thomas Murphy, and by her brothers Thomas and Michael. She will be loved and missed by all. Visitation will be held at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, SI, NY, on Sunday Nov. 7, and Monday, Nov. 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass will be at St. Christopher's Church, 130 Midland Ave., SI, NY, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 10:30 a.m.
