Edward Simas Obituary

Edward J. Simas of Eltingville passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the age of 91, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Antonio and Mary, Edward obtained his Bachelor's degree from Pace University. He was known for his diligence, working two jobs -- a purchasing officer for Ingersoll Rand and Macy's as a floor manager. He was a corporal in the United States Marine Corps, serving stateside during the Korean War.

"I was blessed to live close to my father, where I could visit him whenever I could throughout the years for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and small occasions," said his son, Scott. "There would be a gleam in his eyes and a smile draped across his face the moment he would see my kids, Kayla and Troy. Especially our dog, Romo, who was his 'roommate' for a week each summer."

In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading mystery novels, doing word puzzles, and he prided himself on the fact that he excelled in completing the crossword puzzle in the New York Times. He enjoyed watching sports, but he was most partial to the Chicago Bears and his beloved New York Yankees.

"No matter what stage his health was in the recent years, he constantly showed his caring nature for others by always asking about my family, never worrying about his own health," said his daughter-in-law, Gina Navarino-Simas.

Aside from his parents, Edward is predeceased by his siblings, Mary and Anthony.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years Maureen nee Ellis. His children, Stephen (Doran), Donna Bauerlein (Karl), Kevin (Ellen), Keith (Maria), Scott (Gina), and Dawn Perry (John).

He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, a great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc. 28 Eltingville Blvd.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Our Lady Star Star of the Sea Church, Huguenot, at 11:15 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery with

I am very sorry to hear about Ed passing. I worked at Macys in the mid 70s and Ed was one of the Night managers, found him to be a gentleman and a pleasure to work with. We used to kid him about his fashion style but he had a great sense of humor as well. I will fondly remember him.

I worked part-time at Macy's from 1983-1987 while I was in college and Ed was often the night manager on duty. I remember him as easy going and really great to work for. I'm so sad to hear of his passing. My memories of Macy's always include Ed. I am very sorry for your loss; I'm sure you know what a great man he was.

I had the pleasure of knowing Ed back when when I worked at Macy's while I was in high school in the mid-70s. Ed knew all my hiding places when He could never find me ringing up at the cash register taking
care of customers usually found me in the employee lounge. Remembering Ed all these years he made a very good impression upon me.My condolences to your family...
