Eileen Cugno Carlucci, 79
A woman who loved family and was a role model
Eileen Cugno Carlucci of New Dorp, a woman close to her family, her friends and one who spent much time involved in charitable causes, died Saturday, January 11, 2020.
She would have been 80 years old on February 5.
Born Eileen Love in Manhattan, she attended Epiphany Catholic Grammar School and then St. Anthony Commercia High School.
As so many young people did then, Eileen married shortly after high school graduation - at age 19 - and moved from Manhattan to New Dorp. Her new husband was Anthony Cugno.
Anthony and Eileen had four children.
After raising them, she began a career as an executive assistant for AIG and Reliance National in Manhattan for 15 years.
She left that position and went to work at Staten Island University Hospital for more than 10 years as Graduate Medical Education Coordinator, and then executive assistant in the OB-GYN department.
After retirement in 2008, she volunteered as a CCD teacher for Our Lady Queen of Peace and Our Lady Star of the Sea schools.
Eileen enjoyed traveling, day trips to Atlantic City and loved taking in rescue dogs.
She was very generous with her time and support donating toys for many charitable causes.
A strong, vibrant, take-charge woman, Eileen loved the holidays and spending time with her family.
"My mother was loved by everyone," said her son, Michael. "We're blessed, especially the grandchildren, to have so many fond memories to cherish, especially the holidays, milestone celebrations, and vacations," he said. "She is role model to my entire family."
Daughter Maryanne Carrara stressed Eileen's love of people - especially family - as well.
"My mother was the type of person who was always concerned about her family and friends and put them first," Maryanne said. "She was smart, strong, and a very giving person. She really was an amazing mother."
Eileen is survived by sons, Michael Cugno and his wife, Doreen, Dominick Cugno and his wife, Liz, David Cugno and his wife, Rachel, and Maryanne Carrara and her husband, Pete; six grandchildren, Alyssa Marie Carrara Cummings, Christina Carrara, Juliana Carrara, Michael-Scott Cugno, Rose Cugno and Sal Cugno; two great-grandchildren, Ava Cummings and Callan Cummings, and six siblings, Pat Belmont, Vincent Love, Daniel Love, Kathleen Quinn, Christopher Love and Debra Mayer.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Carlucci; her sister, Stephanie Dunn, and her parents, Stephanie and Vincent Love.
