Evelyn A. "Evie" Nilsen

North Brunswick resident, native Islander, 87 Evelyn A. "Evie" Nilsen died Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 87. Born in Staten Island, New York to the late Morten and Memmi (Jensen) Nilsen she lived in Staten Island before moving to New Jersey in the early 1980s. She was a nutritionist for the Middlesex County Office of Aging where she worked for 16 years before retiring in 2010. Prior to that she held various food service director positions including Eger Nursing Home in Staten Island. Ms. Nilsen was a member of Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Brunswick and belonged to many church committees. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association, the Gerontological Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group and the Greater New Jersey Society for Hospital Food Service Administrators. She was predeceased by her brother Karl Nilsen. Surviving are two nieces – Patricia Bandtlow of Wethersfield, Connecticut and Lynn Dixon and her husband John of Vancouver, Washington; great nephew and great nieces - Steve Bandtlow and his wife Kathleen of Portland, CT, Rachel Bandtlow of Wethersfield, CT, Melissa Dixon of Vancouver, WA and Rebecca Dixon and her partner Keith Bunnell of Lake Oswego, Oregon; and her sister-in-law Jeanne Nilsen of Vancouver, WA. Private cremation was under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. The family asks that donations in Evie's memory be made to one's favorite charity.
