NYC Transit driver, skilled carpenter who built boats in retirement New Dorp resident Gary Medoro, 68, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Born in 1953 in Bay Ridge Brooklyn to Rudolph (deceased) and Mary, Gary attended William E. Grady High School in Sheepshead Bay, learning the carpentry trade. He was a New York City Transit Authority bus operator, driving the express bus run to Manhattan from 1980 until his retirement in 2003. During his retirement years Gary loved nothing better than to work around the home he shared with his wife Janet, and eventually resurrected his carpentry skills building a total of 5 unique pleasure boats, which he launched in Great Kills harbor. Besides boating, his love of playing music lasted from his teen-age neighborhood band years into adulthood; collecting and crafting guitars that both he and his son would play together. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Janet; children Joseph and Leslie, future son-in-law Thomas DiVenti, his mother Mary, and brother Jan Fulmer. Visitation will be at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022 from 2-4:00 and 7-9:00 pm. A 10:00am funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 10 Austin Place, on Friday Jan. 14, 2022. Burial will be at at Moravian Cemetery.
