Genevieve Iafe-D'Ambrosio Obituary

Deli Owner/Restaurateur, Mother & Grandmother, Doo-Wop Fan
It is with great sadness that the family of Genevieve Iafe-D'Ambrosio formerly of Dongan Hills, Staten Island announce her passing Monday, May 29, 2023. She was a Graduate of St. Peter's High School, active in St. Ann's parish and Academy of St. Dorothy's parents' guild.

Gen as she was affectionately known as spent over 60 years in the Food & Beverage industry. First as a waitress in the family owned business of Trimarche's Restaurant in Dongan Hills, then owning her own businesses of Red Ribbon Deli in Eltingville and finally Gennie D's Restaurant of Hernando Florida. Her love of cooking was the glue that held family together. Each of her kids can remember their favorite dishes and numerous holiday gatherings.

Her whole life Gen enjoyed her Doo-Wop music. She was a huge fan of Vito Piccone and The Elegants. Her daughter Dawn quoted "my whole life I heard the story of how her friends The Elegants came to her hospital room when she was a teenager to sing their hit "little star."

Gen was the quintessential New York Sports Fan. Sundays with the Giants were a right of passage in her home. Not to mention her Yankees and Joe Torre. Her kids spent many hours talking her thru channel surfing in order to help her find what channel was playing the Yankee Game. She was an avid supporter of New Dorp High School Football as her husband was a previous JV football coach and both of her sons are ND Centrals. Gen used to go as far as videotape football games from the roof of the school back in her day.

In the last decade Gen enjoyed her retirement time in Inverness Florida. She had her Sunday Domino game, was a regular at the Loyal Order of Moose Monday Shuffle-board, had a front row seat at Our Lady-Fatima Tuesday Bingo, and not to forget the Wednesday Rehab Reunion Lunch Gang at Applebee's. She had a busier social calendar than her Grandkids. "Grandma where are you off to now… Wouldn't you like to know… lol"

Preceded in death by her husband Peter P. D'Ambrosio, she is lovingly remembered by her children; Dawn Argenziano, Nicholas Argenziano (Liz) and Michael D'Ambrosio, her Grand-Children Samantha, Guilianna, Nicholas and Mia Argenziano and Alyssa D'Ambrosio, along with Brother George A. Iafe (Linda).

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, June 14th, 2023 at St. Ann's RC Church 101 Cromwell Avenue, Staten Island, N.Y. Burial in Moravian Cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 at Martin Hughes Funeral Home 530 Narrows Road South, Staten Island, N.Y.

Dearest Cousins Dawn, Nicholas and Michael,
It is with great sadness learning of your Mom's passing. Gen was a real lady and was admired by many of her girl cousins for her kindness and ability to succeed in her passion of cooking and hospitality. We all have fond memories of her always smiling and having a bright outlook on life. Keep your treasured memories of her close to your heart, in times of need for they will comfort you. God Bless you all. Cousins Penny and Lenny
