Dr. Gloria Roldan Cabeza, 81
Doctor and teacher with an immense love of family
On Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, Dr. Gloria Roldan Cabeza, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 81. Gloria was born on Nov. 12, 1936, in Jayuya, Puerto Rico.
She received numerous degrees including a masters degree in 1974 from Long Island University and master's degree in 1979 from Columbia University and thereafter continued her education to receive her Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1985 from the Universidad Central del Este. She worked as a doctor until her forced retirement due to being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. She worked as a psychiatrist at various medical facilities including Brookdale Hospital, South Beach Psychiatric Center, and Richmond University Medical Center.
Gloria had a passion for teaching. Before becoming a doctor she was a teacher for many years with the New York City Board of Education. She was a teacher in Brooklyn at I.S. 293 and J.H.S. 51. Throughout her medical career and until her illness she taught medical students and medical interns completing their residency training. She loved history, culture, music, and art. She was also known for her intelligence, insight, and immense love of family.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cabeza. She is survived by her children, Frances Melendez, Frank Melendez, Robert Cabeza Jr., her grandchildren, Zarina, Frank-Anthony, Olivia, Anjelique, Samantha, and great-grandson, Brett.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Casey Funeral Home located at 350 Slosson Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10314 from 5 to 9 p.m. with a formal memorial service to begin at 7 p.m.
