James J. Hession A truly generous and caring man James J. Hession "Babe" passed away peacefully on Father's Day after a short illness. Jim loved nothing more than spending his time helping others, working in his vegetable garden, and giving away his "crops" to family and neighbors. He was a self-taught builder and all-around handyman who loved helping others with construction projects. Jim grew up in Stapleton as the eldest son of thirteen siblings. He was greatly loved by all his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. Jim began working at age nine and for the next seventy years of his life, he worked hard to support his family, children, and grandchildren. James was proud to serve his country in the United States Army. After his Honorable Discharge in 1965, he went on to have a career for Verizon of Staten Island as a lineman, Union Advocate, foreman, and office manager. After his retirement, he worked as an Engineering Consultant for AT&T. It is with great sorrow that the loving husband of Elizabeth Hession, devoted stepfather to John & Analia Salvanti and Danielle & William Keel, father to Jimmy Hession, Kelly Brodin and Michael Hession and loving grandfather of 9 has passed from this world. His spirit will live on in all he loved and in all who loved him. We lost a truly generous and caring, loved individual. Visitation is Thursday at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd., from 4 to 8 p.m. Mass is Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa's Church. Burial at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery.
