James Vavas, 86, of Staten Island, passed away on Oct. 15, 2020, at Staten Island University Hospital North, Staten Island.
He was born in New York City and was a lifelong resident of Staten Island. James was a United States Army veteran serving from 1959 to 1963. Before retiring, James was a mechanic for the New York City Transit Authority in Staten Island. James enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, N.J., with friends and taking daily long walks. He also enjoyed watching sports. Jimmy was loved by all of his family and friends, he will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by siblings, Jean Sideris, Anthony Vavas, George Vavas, and Tula Roschbach.
James is survived by his sister, Dorothy Thompson, and many nieces and nephews.

This is so sad. He's with daddy now (George) & uncle Tony & aunt Tula & Stephan. Uncle Jimmy was always nice to me when he came to visit my Dad, he'd bring me a present & ask me questions to see if I was paying attention in school. I really haven't had much contact with him over the years but I'd phone him around the Holidays to wish him a Merry Christmas & we'd chat for a while. I'm sure there's a lot of big hugs going on in heaven. God bless him. Blessings for peace for the family. Love, Karen
