Navy veteran, retired NYPD detective, family man
Jerry (Azaria) Capuano, 87, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2020.
He was the devoted husband to his late wife Matilda Capuano; beloved father of Carol Lopes, Lisa Grzeczka, and Gerriann Vovk; cherished father-in-law of Angelo Lopes, Kent Grzeczka and Val Vovk; loving grandfather to Jessica, Sal, Eric, and Alex Lopes, Jordan Grzeczka, Madeline and Mia Vovk.
Jerry was born on January 18, 1933 in Naples, Italy. He moved to Brooklyn before settling in Staten Island. In addition to serving in the US Navy as a deep sea diver, Jerry retired as a NYPD detective.
He was laid to rest in Moravian Cemetery on Thursday, May 28th. An avid reader and colorful storyteller, he will be sorely missed by all. Donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Dom, Megan, Tillie, and Dom, So very sorry to hear of your father/grandfather's passing. I will miss all of his great stories. I am glad that you got to spend more time with him these last few years; he was lucky to have you.

Rest In Peace . I only knew him as the gentleman at Great Kills Park who would always sit in his car and read his book. He was always pleasant and never bothered anybody. My condolences to his family.
