Joan Bridges Obituary

Beloved Mother & Grandmother, Longtime Islander, 95 Joan Dance Bridges, 95, of Staten Island, NY died Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Staten Island Esplanade. She was born September 30, 1926 in Clinton, TN to William Alexander & Ruth Biddle Dance. After marrying Robert Berner Bridges, Jr. in 1949 they came to NYC, from 1960 living on Staten Island, for almost thirty years in Grasmere, where they were members of the Cameron Club. Joan was a teacher from 1963 until she retired in 1991. She taught kindergarten at Trinity Lutheran & Eltingville Lutheran Schools, and was a special education teacher at New Dorp High School. Joan is predeceased by her husband, parents and two sisters. She is survived by her five children, Katherine Ruth, Walton, NY; Thomas Jackson, Guildford, UK; Robert Berner III, Parkville, MD; John William, Westmoreland, NH; and Edward Quentin, Brooklyn, NY; their respective spouses, and ten grandchildren, as well as by her sister Judy Dance McMullin, Mountain Rest, SC; three nephews and five nieces. Donations may be made in her honor to the International Dyslexia Association.

My Kindergarten Teacher at Trinity Lutheran school Early 1960's. Mrs Bridges gifted me the ability to read, I have never forgotten that gift,or Mrs Bridges. My sincerest sympathies. Walt Barghaan ,Trinity Lutheran School class of 1971.

Joan was my best friend. We traveled to so many places together. ..Alaska and many trips to Pennsylvania to see our friend Ruth. I will miss her.
