Joan Ann Langton

Joan Ann Langton, 89, passed away Monday, November 21, 2021, peacefully at home. Born Joan Ann Fitzpatrick in Brooklyn, Joan graduated from St. Mary Star of the Sea Grammar School and was one of three students to secure a scholarship to Bishop McDonnell High School. In 1959, she married John "Jack" Langton, who she met at a wedding, and they moved to Great Kills in July 1964. Wedded for 58 years, Jack predeceased Joan in December 2017. Joan had the gift of gab and was known to strike up conversations with family, friends, and strangers she met along the way. Her hobbies included stamp and coin collecting, reading, watching movies, and her favorite baseball team, the New York Mets. Joan worked in accounting until having her first child in 1966, deciding to be a stay-at-home mom until 1986. After briefly working at Macy's, Joan took a tax course with H&R Block, which started her on a lifelong career in tax preparation. She also went on to teach tax courses for the company. Working for 30 years, Joan did not retire until she was 84 years young. She was well-liked and respected by both her co-workers and clients. She is survived by her son, Steven; daughter, Janet Magnuson, daughter-in-law, Mary Margaret; grandsons, Christopher, and Daniel Magnuson; granddaughter Mary Colleen, sister, and brother-in-law Bernie & Dorothy McSherry; brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Linda Fitzpatrick. She was predeceased by her brother Walter Fitzpatrick. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend, Joan will be deeply missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Clare's Church, located at 110 Nelson Ave, Staten Island, New York 10308. Arrangements Include private cremation. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, November 26, 2021, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
