Army veteran, Manhattan yellow cab driver, devoted to his family
Joseph P. Curcio, 84, of Great Kills, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Jan. 2, 2020.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a graduate of Tilden High School, and was a US Army veteran stationed at Fort Dix from 1958 to 1962.
Mr. Curcio drove a yellow cab in Manhattan for over 30 years, and then drove for various car services on Staten Island, retiring from Mid Island Car Service in 2016.
He dearly loved his four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, was an avid Yankees, Giants and Rangers fan, and loved weekend trips to Atlantic City with his wife.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara (Bilardo); daughter, Dawn Doyle; son-in-law, Richard Doyle; son, Joseph Curcio; grandchildren, Richard Doyle (Mary), Kyle Doyle (Danielle), Shannon Doyle, Daniel Doyle; great-granddaughters, Jayde, Ryann, Aria and Shay; brother, Albert Curcio (Madeline); three nephews, Nick, Michael, Marco; and niece, Susan.
Visitation is today, Sunday, Jan. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Our Lady Help of Christians. Interment is in St. Peter's Cemetery.
