Josephine Dunn Obituary
Beloved mother, grandmother and aunt Josephine (nee Vertucci) Dunn, 91, of Staten Island, NY and Jupiter, FL, went home to the Lord on Thursday, 11/24, after a short illness. She was surrounded by family at her daughter's home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Josephine and her husband (Dr. William J. Dunn, Sr.) who pre-deceased her, were snowbirds for 30 plus years until Josephine moved permanently to Jupiter 10 years ago. Josephine was born in Brooklyn NY to Rose and Nicholas Vertucci and was the sister of Carmel Maldari and Gerard Vertucci. (All deceased). She is also survived by Gerard's wife, Grace Vertucci of Delray. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, both of Staten Island: Mrs. Ann Kotowicz and Sr. Janet Dunn of the Presentation order. Josephine graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in NYC with a Bachelor of Science Degree and briefly worked in the lab until she started her family. She resided with her family in West Brighton since 1958 and moved to Todt Hill in 1968 where she lived for most of her life. As a member of the Richmond County Country Club Josephine was an avid and successful tennis player. She played golf in her later years. She also enjoyed bridge and mah-jongg, but her greatest joys came from her family. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen and son-in law, Joseph Savarese, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and her sons, Dr. William J. Dunn and daughter-in law, Cathy Lenahan Dunn, and Robert N Dunn, Esq and daughter-in-law, Dr. Cathy Savage Dunn, all of Staten Island. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Dr. Joseph Savarese, Jessica Dunn, Stephanie Dunn, Nicholas Savarese, William Dunn, Shannon Dunn, and Robert Dunn. Josephine also has many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Josephine was a member of St. Jude's Church in Jupiter and St. Theresa's Church in Staten Island. She also attended Family Church in Palm Beach Gardens with her daughter and family. In Jupiter, Josephine was a season ticket holder at the Maltz Jupiter Theater, and at one time a member of a group of friends who volunteered at the theater. She was a member of her community knitting club and Bible study group. She enjoyed watercolor painting as is evident by her many portrayals of the Jupiter Lighthouse. She crocheted up until a month prior to her death. Her legacy was the many talents she shared with her grandchildren in art and cooking. She volunteered her sewing and crocheting talents throughout the years to schools, churches, Kenya Relief and St. Mary's Medical Center. She will be greatly missed by many. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 6 from 4 to 8 pm at Casey Funeral Home in Staten Island, NY, followed by a mass on December 7 at St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus RC Church on Victory Blvd at 10:45 am. Josephine will be buried next to her husband at Moravian Cemetery. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home in Jupiter, Florida on January 12 from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Maltz Jupiter Theater, 1001 East Indiantown Road, Jupiter, Florida.
