June Olsen

June Olsen (nee Looby), age 90, of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in her home. June was pre-deceased by her husband Bill Olsen, brothers Donald, Carlton and Harold Looby and her brother and sister-in-law Emil and Marjorie Petagna. June is survived by her two children, Michelle and her husband, Ralph, and Keith and his wife, Julie. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren; Taylor, Prisilla, Damian, Daniel, Davin, and Paisley; and her sister, Larissa and brother-in-law, Don Dingman. June was born in Rutland, VT to Harold and Gladys Looby on March 12, 1932. She moved to New York to complete nursing training after high school. She lived and worked in Brooklyn where she met her husband, Bill. June was an accomplished nursing professional and educator and was one of the original faculty members who developed the highly respected nursing program at the College of Staten Island. She served as department chair, co-authored a widely used medical dosage calculation textbook and influenced thousands of nursing students over her impressive career. June loved to travel with family and friends and excelled at supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. Her joy came from helping others and she left an indelible impression on all who were fortunate to know her. The Funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, March 4, 2023, 10 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 5371 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, NY., with private cremation to follow. Continuous visitation will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, 4-8 PM at Scarpaci Funeral Home, 6389 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, NY.
