Lillian Zippilli

1921 - 2022

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, 101 Lillian Zippilli (nee Amplo), Born on December 3, 1921 and passed away peacefully on December 9, 2022. Second youngest of 8 children who all predeceased her. Born and raised on Staten Island and lived there 101 years. Lillian was a war bride at 18 yrs of age. Married to Edward Schablein and was widowed after 6mos of marriage. Edward was a paratrooper killed in the war. She met Vincent Toto and married in 1946 and had one child, Marguerite. Vincent died 10 years later. Lillian raised her daughter on her own for the next 10 years. She then met Dominick Zippilli who she married and enjoyed life with for 25yrs. She worked in many of the local stores in New Dorp. A&P where she worked with her brother Frank, and Sister Millie. She then worked for Ziegler and Aida's bakeries. Following, Lillian was a sales associate for Harry's Dept. Store both New Dorp and Great Kills. Lillian was very active in the Mariners Harbor senior center where she was the trip coordinator, enjoyed playing poker and running cake sales, where she was noted for her "Crumb Cake" Lillian was also a Breast Cancer Survivor for 40 years. Lillian was a kind, loving and gentle woman who was very dedicated to doing anything for her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she loved her family and friends unconditionally. Lillian was also noted for her crumb cake and especially the assortment of home baked Christmas cookies with family and friends. Lillian survived by her daughter Marguerite Sambataro (nee Toto), her granddaughters Brenda-Marie Picone and Francine Cioffi and husband Joseph, great-grandchildren Rosalia, Vincent and Bianca-Marguerite Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cherubini McInerney Funeral Home, 1289 Forest Avenue. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 18, from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass, Monday at 11:00 am, Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, followed by a burial at Moravian Cemetery.
