Milton Hochron Obituary

12/21/1920 - 10/24/2021 Milton (Micky) Hochron passed away just shy of his 101st birthday on October 24, 2021 in his home at Stonebridge at Montgomery, surrounded by his children. A native of New York's Lower East Side, Milton married his wife Sylvia (nee Pine) and moved to Staten Island, where they raised their family. A graduate of Stuyvesant High School and New York University, Micky's long educational career started as an industrial arts teacher at Port Richmond High School. During his time at the school, he launched a program to help students learn real-world skills outside of the classroom. He also taught evening ceramics classes on Staten Island and ran the adult evening program at Junior High School 27. Micky went on to a supervisory position at the Board of Education in New York before returning to Staten Island as one of the first assistant principals at Susan Wagner High School, where he served as the chairman of the industrial arts department. In addition to his work in the school system, Micky spent many summers as the camp supervisor of the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds on Staten Island and loved camping with his wife and children across the United States and Canada. Following his retirement in 1976, he and Sylvia traveled the world before settling in Concordia in Monroe Township, NJ, where they watched their family flourish. Following Sylvia's passing, he spent his last 12 years at Stonebridge, where he met many new friends and spent countless hours swimming and exercising. He was also very involved in other activities held there. Micky was predeceased by his wife Sylvia, parents Nathan and Laura, and six siblings. He is survived by his children Dr. Robert Hochron and his wife Debbie of Skillman, NJ, Dr. Stuart Hochron and his wife Shabnam of Santa Fe, NM, and his daughter Shelly Hochron and her husband Jack Harrower of Armonk, NY. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Adam Hochron and his wife Elizabeth Menscher, Douglas Hochron, Benjamin Hochron and his wife Alyson, Molly Harrower, and Jackson Harrower, as well as his great-granddaughter Erin Hochron. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Cancer Society.

So sorry for your loss.
I am forever grateful to him because in my high school youth at Port Richmond H.S., I was disinterested in school and he saw my potential and inducted me into a new program (1961 or so) to get wayward students back on track. I believe he was the originator of that program which allowed students go to school half days and to work after school. He devoted a lot of time with the teachers involved, the family and finding employers for students in the program. He was responsible for me and other students to graduate instead of failing.
I am beholding to Mr. Hochron and will never forget him.
May God bless him!

My deepest sympathies Hochron Family. Mr. Hochron was my Metals shop teacher 1952-1954, at Port Richmond High School. He was a great teacher and role model. Helped me make a steel hammer and a miniature vise. I still have these items today. Remember him on St. Patrick's Day dressed with green accessories. Again I am sorry for your loss.
