Family man with roots in Greece, 'a gentle man with a great smile' Nikolaos P. Bonakis, 81, of Easton, PA, died Thursday morning, March 31, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital-Anderson Campus. He was the husband of Debbie (Sikales) Bonakis. Born on September 14, 1940 in Crete, Greece, he was a son of the late Panayiotis and Marika (Gregorakis) Bonakis. He moved from Staten Island to Brodheadsville, PA in 2001 and lived there until 2018 when he relocated to Easton. Nikolaos served in the Navy in Greece and was a Local Union Painter in New York City. He was in the Kritikiki Filoxenia of Staten Island and a member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Stroudsburg, PA. Nikolaos was a gentle man with a great smile who loved life and had a heart of gold. He enjoyed spending time with his family alongside his wife of 55 years. In addition to his wife, surviving are two daughters, Ria Loukas of Easton, PA and Marika Yasparakis and husband Yianni of Staten Island; two grandchildren, Christina Loukas and Niko Yasparakis; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Jade Rodriquez; two siblings, Lefteri Bonakis of Staten Island and Popi Berketis of Athens, Greece; and nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing on Sunday, April 3, from 3:00 to 6:00PM at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg, PA. Services will be held on Monday, April 4, at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 135 Stokes Ave., Stroudsburg, PA with viewing beginning at 10:00AM followed by the funeral liturgy at 11:00AM with Father Konstantinos Koutroubas officiating.
