Pauline Padula
'Happiest when surrounded by her loving family'
Pauline Padula (nee Zaccaria), 87, died peacefully in her sleep Monday morning, Jan. 6, 2020.
She was born to Giacinto and Maria Lella (Romanella) Zaccaria in Manhattan. She graduated from Washington Irving High School. She married Pasquale Padula in 1953, and celebrated 56 years of marriage until he passed away in 2009. They moved to Dongan Hills, Staten Island, in 1961.
She was a parishioner at Holy Rosary R.C. Church in South Beach for more than 55 years. Pauline was a school crossing guard at P.S.46 for many years before working at New York Marine Towing & Transportation as a medical claims processor.
She volunteered at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home for over 20 years. She was a kind, compassionate person, with a heart of gold, always willing to help others. She loved caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Joseph Zaccaria, Victoria Bruno (Andrew), Pasquale Zaccaria (Josephine). Pauline is survived by her children, Frank (Eileen), Ann Olivieri (Gregory), Lillian Coscia (James); and six grandchildren, Tracy Linton (Brock), Patrick Padula (Courtney), Elena Olivieri, Shannon Padula, Christopher Coscia, Lauren Coscia Jacobellis (Daniel); and four beloved great-grandchildren, Jack, Riley, Braden, and Nolan.
Pauline was happiest when she was surrounded by her loving family. She was an excellent cook and baker; she loved sewing and knitting. She had a green thumb with a plentiful vegetable garden that she loved to share. She always made the holidays special with her traditions. Sunday dinners with family were the best times.
She enjoyed traveling with her family and "network" of lifelong friends to Aruba, Las Vegas, California, Long Beach Island, Saratoga, and Italy. She will be missed by all, especially by her dearest friend, Louise DeVitto.
Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, has been entrusted with Pauline's funeral arrangements which include visitation Thursday, Jan. 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass is at Holy Rosary on Friday, Jan. 10, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Ocean View Cemetery on Amboy Road in Oakwood Heights.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pauline's memory to a charity of your choice.

Dear Annie and family,
Please accept my deepest and sincerest condolences on the passing of your beloved mother. When thinking of Pauline, I remember her beautiful smile welcoming us gang of kids (who later morphed into teenagers and later, still, into adults) into her home to play, swim in the backyard pool, have a sleepover or to bake. May she rest in perfect peace.
Love, Susan B.
