Richard G. Shamah 'Great provider & role model...a self-made man' Richard G. Shamah, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Bertha (nee Kalagassy) for 54 years. He was the loving father of Ron and his wife Danielle and Renee and her wife Cindy. He was the devoted "Pop Pop" of Karissa and Clara. He was the dear brother of the late Thomas. He was the cherished son of the late Eleanor "Teta" and Albert. Richard was born and raised in Brooklyn; he later met and fell in love with his wife Bertha. They were blessed with 54 "glorious years" of marriage and two wonderful children. Richard was a hard working man who was a printer for about 25 years and for an equal number of years became a successful Real Estate Broker. Richard was a self-made man who was very proud and humble. In addition to being a great provider and role model for his wife and children he was even a better "Pop Pop". For hours at a time, he would spend time playing with his two beautiful grandchildren. He was incredibly dedicated to his family in all aspects of their lives. He was an extremely personable person who was considered the life of the party. Richard will be remembered as a joyful, strong, funny and selfless person who will live in the hearts and minds he touched throughout his life. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Funeral from the Matthew Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 2508 Victory Blvd., on Monday, 7/26/2021, departing at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Holy Family R.C. Church at 10:30 AM. A private cremation will follow. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, 7/25/2021, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. Losing Uncle Richie is a terrible loss. Our only comfort is that he is with the Lord in whom he deeply believed. Uncle Richie was a dedicated husband and family man. I personally thank him and dear Bertha supporting my mother Martha at the hospital when my Grandad Jim Monier passed away and he also helped me personally quite a bit with finding an apt when returning to Staten Island several years back. It is always those left behind who suffer. I have wonderful memories of him and Bertha since childhood. On a lighter note; he was an impeccable, sharp dresser. Wonderful! Anne

To Bertha and rest of the Shamah family we are sad to hear about Richie. He will be very missed it was just about everyday we would see him doing what he loved best taking care of what ever needed to be done around his house always keeping up with everything Even if nothing needed to be done he would always find something to do or make it look pretty. He really had a green thumb and very handy .Especially holiday time decorating the houses. Every Christmas or Birthday he would have a present for my grandson I think my grandson would always ask Richie for his peppermints which he loved so much and Richie would say open ur hands and fill them up thank God he had little hands lol Richie were gonna miss you I'm tearing up typing this so rest peacefully our friend we will do our best to make sure everything is the way you liked it!
