Salvatore Trancucci Obituary

Born in the West Brighton section of Staten Island, Mr. Trancucci also lived in Mariners Harbor and then Todt Hill as a child. He attended PS 29, Prall Intermediate School, Port Richmond H.S. where he played Varsity Baseball, and the College of Staten Island. As a teen, he worked at Waldbaum's Supermarket where he met his wife, the former Judith Grasso. He then was employed by NY Telephone/Verizon where he worked as a service technician and acting supervisor for 29 years, retiring in 1999. He served as a Union Steward for Local 1101 and was a member of the N.Y. Telephone Co. Softball League. He also worked as a bus driver for Sheffield Transit, a family-owned company. Mr. Trancucci was a member of the United States Army Reserve, serving as a Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1981 after serving for 11 years. After marriage, Mr. Trancucci and his family moved to Graham Beach where he lived for 13 years. He was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary's parish, where he was a member of the Men's Club and a coach of CYO basketball teams. During this time he served at East Shore Little League as a coach and played and coached for Ray's Island Sports Men's Softball League. In 1989 Mr. Trancucci and his family relocated to East Stroudsburg, Pa. where he became a member of St. John's parish, Bushkill. He continued to serve as a volunteer for the Staten Island CYO and was the CYO Basketball Officials Assignor for 2 years. When he retired from Verizon, Mr. Trancucci was employed as a bus driver for the CYO Senior Guild for 2 years and then worked 3 years for Shawnee Resort in its Customer Service Department as a bus driver/tour guide. He also was employed by Mt. Airy Lodge Resort Casino in its Valet Department for 2 years. He and his wife relocated to New Port Richey, Florida in 2010. Mr. Trancucci served as President and a Director of his community's homeowners association and was a member of its landscape committee and various ad hoc committees. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. The Trancucci's then moved to Howey in the Hills, Florida where they became members of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish in Eustis and finally settled in Magnolia, Delaware where he was a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Cross. Mr. Trancucci enjoyed range shooting, collecting various memorabilia, and traveling especially for family vacations and to see his grandchildren in their sports tournaments. He and his wife would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May. In addition to his wife, Mr. Trancucci is survived by his children, Salvatore III (Kelly), Matthew and Julie (T.J.) Greco , his grandchildren, Samantha, Salvatore IV, Claudia, Michael, Kamdin, Pyper ,Vanessa and Thomas, his great grandsons, Ethyn, Tobias, and Alarik and was awaiting the birth of his first great- granddaughter, as well as his sisters, Marie (Ron) Witte, Barbara (Len) Hoskinson, sisters-in-law, Jodette and Janis (Lisa) Grasso and brothers-in-law, Gene, Gerry , Jeffrey Mark (Steve) and Jaime (Tim) Grasso and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore, Sr. and Anna Trancucci, sister, Antoinette Cammarata, sister-in-law, Diane Grasso, nephews, Anthony Cammarata and Jason Grasso Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:00 AM Monday, February 28, 2020 at The Church of The Holy Cross, 631 S. State St. Dover, DE 19901. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. Visitation will be held 4-6PM Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022 at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St. Dover, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., SI, NY 10306. It´s impossible to think of Sal without thinking of baseball. He loved going to games and watching his grandsons play.

We played baseball together in the north shore league and in 1964 went to Pa. on the all-star team and won all games played. Sal was a fun loving person and always had kind words for people. R.I.P. old friend.
