Violet A. Fosket

Oakwood Heights Mother & Grandmother, Lifelong Tennis Player Violet A. Fosket, age 94, passed away peacefully on November 21st, surrounded by her children in the Oakwood Heights home she lived in for over 60 years. Violet was born in Montreal in 1927 and later her family moved to Dongan Hills, Staten Island in 1931. Violet graduated from New Dorp High School, class of 1946 and also studied at Pace University. Violet loved to sing and dance earning the nickname "Twinkle Toes" in high school, where she was an executive member of the Pegasus Club and later helped to plan many of the New Dorp High School reunions. Violet was an active member of Walker Park Tennis Club where she met her husband, George Fosket. They married in 1954, settling in Oakwood Heights in 1955. She was employed at Standard Vacuum Oil Company for 10 years prior to raising her 5 children and caring for her mother. She then returned to work for Ebasco Engineering Services, as an Executive Assistant for 15 years. She retired in 1992. After retiring, they spent their winters in Jupiter, Florida, playing golf and socializing with friends and family. Violet was a lifetime parishioner of Moravian Church, New Dorp and a longtime member of Hillside Swim Club, enjoying tennis with friends and family. She was also a member of the South Shore Raindrops Golf Club. She loved cruising, traveling, playing bridge and was an avid reader. Violet is predeceased by her husband George and son Tim. She is survived by son David Fosket (Lisa), daughters, Dr. Claudia Fosket (Bob Smolinski), Geralyn Vanacore (Jim), and Pamela Carbone (Vincent) and 6 grandchildren Eric & Gregg, Nicole & Jared, Sarina & Jeff, respectively and two great grandchildren, Eden and Violet Skye Fosket. A private service for family will be held at Moravian Church on December 10th at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future for extended family.
