Vivian Gainey Obituary

Vivian A. Gainey Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother Vivian A. Gainey, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully went to heaven at home surrounded by her family on August 31. Born Vivian Faruolo, in Rosebank to Joseph and Antoinette Faruolo, she was the youngest of 12 children and a lifelong resident of the Rosebank community. Vivian was an honors graduate of New Dorp high school and went on for her degree at Turo College attaining her liberal arts degree. After graduation she worked for 10 years as a supervisor at Central Hanover Bank and Trust in Manhattan. She moved on to St. Vincent's Hospital here on Staten Isl. for over 26 years retiring as the supervisor of Pre-Admission Testing. She actually formed that unit for the hospital. Never one to be idol after retiring from the hospital she volunteered at St. Mary's School teaching remedial reading, ran the 300 Club, was treasurer of the local cub scout troop, was a member of St. Mary's Rosary Society and ran bus trips to Vermont for 16 years. Her enjoyments were travel to Hawaii, Europe, cruises, Atlantic City, playing cards and her special enjoyment of Engelbert Humperdinck. Vivian was the loving wife of the late Thomas, Devoted mother of Pamela Martin, Thomas IV, Brian and the late Thomas III. Cherished grandmother of 9 grandchildren including the late Nathan and 7 great grandchildren. Services were entrusted to the care of Martin Hughes Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held today 4-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 11 am at St. Joseph St. Mary Immaculate RC Church. Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Grasmere. Thoughts and condolences can be sent to the family at www.martinhughesfuneralhome.com. It is with great sadness that I learn of Vivian's passing. It was my honor and privilege to work with her at St Vincent's when she was a "ward clerk". There as always her unending energy and her great sense of humor. My sincere wishes for peace to all of her family.

My condolences and sympathies to all of the family. I remember Mrs. Gainey as a wonderful, loving, encouraging Lady with a smile always for me who work with my Mom, and then when I worked at SVMC with Mary for many years and Mom adored Vivian as well. So sorry for your loss.
