William Arthur Olsen

1931 - 2022

Purple Heart recipient, respected golf teacher, great storyteller William Arthur Olsen, age 90, of Staten Island, NY, passed away Wednesday May 25, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family. Survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, June (nee Looby), his daughter Michelle and her husband, Ralph Keefe and his son, Keith and wife, Julie. Predeceased by his sister Marjorie Petagna. William Arthur is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Taylor, Prisilla, Damian, Daniel, Davin, and Paisley and his sister-in-law Larissa and brother-in-law Don Dingman. Bill was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 14, 1931 to Margaret Fitzgerald and Arthur Olsen and served in the United States Marine Corps. He was honored with a purple heart having sustained a leg amputation from stepping on a mine in battle in the Korean War. Bill was a proud man that never let his significant injury get in the way of his ability to achieve great things. Bill pursued his love of golf and had a highly successful and rewarding career as a teaching pro. He was still instructing in the back yard well into his 90th year. Bill was a great storyteller and all of us who were fortunate enough to spend time with him will carry those stories onto the next generation. The Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday June 1st at 10 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 5371 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM at the Scarpaci Funeral Home, 6389 Amboy Road, Staten Island.
