SIDNEY—Janice Claire Gagermeier, 86, of Sidney, died on January 15, 2021.
Janice Gagermeier (nee Smith) was born in Altoona, PA. on August 23, 1934, the eldest of eight children. She married Wayne Gagermeier on August 25, 1956. The couple moved first to Fort Loramie, OH and then later to Sidney where they resided until her death. In that time, they had six children: Michael Gagermeier, Wayne (Karen) Gagermeier, Elaine Gagermeier, Diane Chisholm, Ann (Tom) Cummings, and Jim (Hameeda) Gagermeier. Janice also had 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Janice, wife to husband Wayne for 64 years, believed that actions spoke louder than words. Janice's unassuming warm manner always put people at ease and drew folks out of their shells. Friends, family, and even strangers felt uplifted after having spent time with her. Her most frequently uttered phrase was "What can I get for you." She simply treated others how she would like to be treated and honored that philosophy until the day she died. When those closest to Janice are asked what she will be remembered for, it's undeniably for her unending generosity of spirit and willingness to help others.
In keeping with Janice's commitment to helping others, she chose the profession of nursing and received her nursing diploma from Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington D.C. Janice practiced as a registered nurse for 39 years, working for more than 35 years at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney, Ohio. Once retired, she readily volunteered at FISH (Friends in Service to Humanity) for ten years and was once awarded volunteer of the year. Janice believed that everyone deserved a kind word and to be treated with dignity. Janice loved being with family, spending time sharing stories, and laughing. She was an avid card enthusiast, not only playing countless card games with family, but was a member of a Shelby County pinochle club that met monthly for 50 years.
A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Andrew Hess officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
