SPRINGFIELD -- Joe Jessee, 89 of Springfield (formerly of Quincy) passed away on January 1st, 2022 at the Springfield Regional Medical Center after a two week hard fought battle with Covid.
He was born October 31, 1932 in Olive Hill, Ky to the late Reuben T. and Vida (Ghee) Jessee. Joe was the youngest of 8 brothers and sisters, all who have passed before him. On July 7, 1956 in Richmond, Indiana Joe married his wife of 52 years Carole Jeanne Wiles, who preceded him in death in 2008. He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bruce Pitcock; daughter-in-law, Paula Jessee.
He is survived by his 5 children, Mary Pitcock of Richwood, Bob Jessee of Missouri, Scott (Kelly) Jessee of Springfield, Dawn (Bill) Jacobs of Sidney, Del (Deb) Jessee of Logansville and his "Adopted" daughter Tonya Parker of Springfield; 22 grandchildren and many loving great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Victory Faith Center in Springfield. Joe played 2 years minor league baseball for the St. Louis Browns, then was called to serve his country in the United States Army. After the army he worked at NCR, where he met the love of his life Carole Jeanne Wiles. After 21 years he left NCR and eventually retired from Alcoa Aluminum in Sidney. Joe had many hobbies, he played softball, played pool, bowled and loved wrestling. The last 10 years he spent many hours playing pool at the Senior Center in Springfield. He also would go to yard sales to find deals to sell at flea markets. He loved being around people, he never knew a stranger. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.
