SPRINGFIELD - Mary Ida Zimmerman Monnin, born on October 28, 1925, went to be with our Lord on April 21, 2024.
She grew up on a farm in Ft. Loramie, OH., the daughter of Joseph and Pauline Zimmerman. Chores were a part of her life and living during the Great Depression resulted in a strong spirit.
As a child, she loved playing baseball and was quite athletic. This love of baseball continued as she supported the REDs, win or lose.
After high school, she entered nurse's training and found her passion in the emergency room where doctors requested her assistance often. Her organization and anticipatory assistance made her their favorite.
Mary met her husband, Bob, while on a date with someone else. They dated for some time, during which her mother became ill. Bob asked her to marry him, and she said yes, but he would have to wait so she could care for her mother. Wait he did, for over a year.
After marriage, they moved to Sidney and began their family of four daughters. Mary was a stay-at-home mom, who worked tirelessly in the garden, cleaning, cooking and sewing everyone's clothes. In fact, her sewing was so detailed and meticulous she won numerous blue ribbons at the county fair. Their family life was full, enjoying boating, skiing at the river, travel, and a large group of friends. Mary would say, "we work hard, and we play hard".
One of her favorite activities was ballroom dancing. When Bob and Mary were dancing the waltz, people would marvel at their synchronization and grace. She was always up for any activity or event. If you said, "would you like to", she would say yes before you finished!
Mary loved people and never hesitated to help a neighbor, friend or her family. As many family members and friends entered long-term care, she often visited with cookies, candy and kind words.
Throughout her life, Mary suffered through numerous surgeries, hearing loss and essential tremors. During this time, she continued her positive spirit, never complaining. Her daughters and grandchildren would often seek her advice and guidance. She listened with her heart and always had the perfect words to bring comfort to help them through difficult times.
She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending sport events, graduations, baptisms and weddings. Mary was the one everyone wanted to be part of their family and often visited South Carolina and Texas to be with them.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Judy Voisard (Ron), Sidney OH; Jane Heckler (David), Austin, TX; JoAnn Miller (Ron), Gaston, SC; Jackie Miller (Jeff), Springfield, OH. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Tina Herring, Angie Voisard, Ryan Voisard; Jessica Potts, David Heckler, Kate Piacentini, Maggie Rosemurgy; DeAnna Martin; Chelsea Miller, Haley Trump, Austin Miller; 34 great-children, her sisters: Marty Koenig and Dotty Dues Graham.

As I was frequent visitor of the Monnins home during my school years, Mary probably thought she was raising me too.. Fondly remembering my memories! Just yesterday I came across her banana bread recipe, my favorite! May you find strength and solace in the memories you shared together.
