KETTLERSVILLE — Mary Lou Shuster, age 89, of Kettlersville, died suddenly at her home in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
She was born on May 31, 1929, in Sidney, the daughter of the late Florian W. and Katherine F. (Anthony) Schwaiger.
On Aug. 5, 1950, she married Stanley H. Shuster, who died on March 28, 2003. Surviving are her eight children, Lucinda (Steven Libecap) Bowman, of Anna, Michele (Leo) Borchers, of Fort Loramie, Denise (John) Koverman, of McCartyville, Brian (Lynn) Shuster, of Kettlersville, Genevieve (Neil) Schroer, of Anna, Barton (Annette) Shuster, of Kettlersville, Camille (Jeffery) Shroyer, of Sidney, and Corrine Prenger, of Sidney; 31 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Schwaiger, of Kansas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren, and two brothers, William and Marcel Schwaiger.
Mary Lou was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, in McCartyville, where she had been part of the Ladies Sodality. She was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217 Auxiliary, the Kettlersville/Van Buren Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and enjoyed volunteering at FISH in Sidney for many years.
She greatly enjoyed traveling around the country attending the annual Army Reunion of the 44th Infantry division of the 217 Field Artillery. Mary Lou had a love for dancing, shopping, and baking delicious treats for her family. She enjoyed playing cards, and she loved her flower garden and caring for her beloved dog, Fetch. Mary Lou was a homemaker, and she will be remembered as a fun mom, and a loving grandmother to all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, in McCartyville, with the Rev. Fr. Steven Mondiek, celebrant.
Interment will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, from 4 until 8 p.m., at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, in New Bremen, and one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
