She passed away peacefully at home.
Adelaide Manning Moniz, born in Providence, RI on August 12, 1930, is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norbert Edward Moniz; her son, David Moniz; her father, Earl Manning; her mother, Louise Leacy O'Rourke; her stepfather, Paul O'Rourke; her sister, Louise Midwood; and her brother, Earl Manning.
Adelaide married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Norbert ("Norb") Moniz, in 1952. During Norb's career in the Army, the couple moved to Georgia and then California, where their first child, Kathleen, was born. Returning to New England, their second child, Norbert II, was born. The family then returned to California, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Their third child, Stephen, and fourth child, David, were also born in California.
Happily married for almost 72 years, their marriage was not only a partnership but a true love story. It was common to see them holding hands or expressing affection. Their love for each other was a profound example of devotion to the entire family.
Early in her marriage, Adelaide worked outside the home as a switchboard operator and later as a travel agent. She also spent time pursuing studies in social science. Other than her husband, Adelaide's greatest love was her children. She was an exceptionally devoted mother, always defending her children and striving to provide for them to the best of her ability.
Adelaide's third love was community service. She was a natural leader and strategist. As a young mother, she served as President of the Junior Women's Club and the Women's Club, becoming District President in 1966. She later partnered with Norb, volunteering for Optimists International, and helped create the Optimist International Women's Club in Santa Clarita. Adelaide contributed more than 40 years of service, improving countless lives.
Adelaide is survived by her daughter, Kathleen, and her husband, Larry Kludt; her son, Norbert Moniz II, and his wife, Karen; and her son, Stephen Moniz, and his wife, Jennifer. She is deeply missed by her eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
