Barbara Maijala Obituary

Barbara Gail Maijala
1953 - 2024
Barbara Gail Maijala, age 70, of Santa Clarita, California passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024 after a brief illness following a long fight with various health issues including multiple myeloma and congestive heart failure.
Gail was born in Tulare, California in 1953 where she grew up on a farm. She lived there until 1978 when she followed her brother to Burbank, CA to work at Lockheed Aircraft's famous "Skunk Works". Gail held multiple positions at the Skunk Works and was most proud of her time spent on the F-117 Nighthawk program. While working at Lockheed, Gail took night classes at Cal State Northridge and graduated with a BA degree in Sociology in 1990. In 2006 she became a contractor to the US Air Force as an Information Assurance Analyst, a position she held until she retired in 2016.
Gail was an outgoing, kind, and generous individual who loved her family and friends…and she had lots of friends. She always made you feel special and never missed a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. Gail loved shopping, collecting and food – especially sweets. She enjoyed traveling whether it be for work or with her friends and family. Gail was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she had sung in choir, managed the coffee supplies and stayed active in her women's bible study group until the very end. Gail was also very active in the philanthropic organization Beta Sigma Phi. Her generosity continued there through her service, conference attendance, donations, and participation in fund raisers.
Gail is preceded in death by her parents Laddie and Anita Wiechman, and brother Alan Wiechman. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Glen; sister Linda Sanders and her husband Joe Sanders; sister Christy Livingston and her husband Richard Livingston; her sister in-law Donna Wiechman and many nieces and nephews.
We will miss her all-encompassing love of family and friends, her generosity, and her love of life…and ice cream!
A memorial service followed by a celebration of life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, in Santa Clarita, on Saturday August 3, 2024, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in memory of Gail to the International Myeloma Foundation at https://www.myeloma.org/ or to Wounded Warrior Project at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
