Bryan Moss Obituary

1933-2017

"We lost a hero, a real patriot, on June 1, 2017." Bryan Alexander Moss was born on August 27, 1933 in his family home on Hampton Lane in Glendale, CA.

Bryan was one of the founding fathers of the Pacific Battleship Association who were responsible for tugging the USS Iowa out of Suisun Bay near San Francisco when it was in danger of being turned into scrap metal. Tugged to her new home, Port of Los Angeles, Berth 87, the USS Iowa has been a floating museum since July 2012.

After leaving the Navy, Bryan worked as an FBI radio specialist. His time as a radioman on the Iowa remained with him throughout his career ~even his cellphone ringtones were in Morse Code! Bryan later worked for a large printing Company, spending several decades in business before retiring in 1997 and moving to Valencia, CA.

He leaves his wife of 20 years, Gail; his three children: David, Glen (Rena) and Lori Ann from a previous marriage; his six grandchildren: Jake, Nick, Mark, Jenna, Jessica and Finn; his great-granddaughter Adeline; his daughter-in law Julie and step-son Jay.

"You will be missed so much by all the volunteers on the ship, your past shipmates, friends at Eggs and Things and Wednesday night La Cocina, and most of all by your family who feels an unbelievable void, a loss so hard to describe. You were truly loved. Godspeed, my husband!"

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 22, 2017 on the USS Iowa, Berth 87, San Pedro, CA.

Bryan,
You were a great friend to us at The Newhall Signal, helping us install our first Mycro-Tek and Compugraphic typesetting systems in the 1980s. You came to our rescue many times. Thank you also for your service to our country aboard the USS Iowa. You will not be forgotten. Godspeed.
