Linda Cook Obituary
To My Beautiful Wife of Fifty Nine Years, I Will Love You For An Eternity…
Linda Afton Cook left this world on February 6, 2021 from chronic asthma and emphysema to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom she prayed to daily. She prayed for our President, Vice President, all her family, friends, the unsaved and non-Christians.
Linda was born on May 8, 1944 to Bertrand and Mary Calvert in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was their first born; next were her brothers, Ronald Bertrand Calvert, Curtis Lynn Calvert, step brothers, Terry Calvert, Gary Calvert, and step sister, Gloria Kay Yeaman.
Linda grew up in Salt Lake City where at two years old she contracted Polio and was Salt Lake City's poster child, photographed in the stainless steel bath tub of the times. With much assistance from her loving mother, much exercise and hard work she overcame many of the effects of the terrible disease. She grew up to become the beautiful young lady that caught my eye and I immediately fell in love with my wife to be. We were married upon graduating high school. I went into construction, my dream job. Linda soon became pregnant with our first child, Tammy Cook, while off and on working as an assistant for an oral surgeon until Tammy was born in November 1962. Our next child Lisa Cook was born in August 1965.
We waited for a while to decide if the time was right to bring another child in to the world, all of our children were planned. It was with great joy that our third child was a little red-headed boy, Scott Cook born in July 1970. His sisters had a great time helping raise him. Our very first home in Whitter, CA had a pool and the girls taught him to swim while he was still in diapers! I have so many great memories of Linda and the kids that will outlive us both. I miss you so much.
Linda worked after the children were in school off and on as a chair side dental assistant and later on as an assistant to doctors in podiatry. Linda's mother was a great cook and taught her a lot of great recipes along with sewing; so when Linda took home economics in high school, she excelled in all, making matching clothes for the girls for years as well as being a great cook. She was renowned for her great potato salad by everyone who had some. Many of my male friends said it was the best that they had ever had and I agree!
Linda was meticulous about her hair and would not go out of the house until every hair was in place! On our wedding day, her dad popped for a trip to the beauty shop and when she got home she redid what SHE said was a mess! Of all the pictures throughout our marriage there are so many different styles, I can't count! To say that I am very proud of my beautiful wife would be an understatement.
Linda's mortal body was laid to rest at Eternal Valley on March 22, 2021 next to our beautiful daughter, Tammy cook who passed in March of 1993 from complications of juvenile diabetes.
Linda is survived by myself, her husband Leo Cook, her daughter, Lisa Cook, her son, Scott Cook, his wife Robin their daughter Paige Ibenhard and her son, Cole, her step-daughter, Crystal McLaughlin, her daughter Kaylah Brown and step sister, Gloria Kay Yeaman. Linda was preceded in death by her mother, father, four brothers and many aunts, uncles and our first born Tammy. Linda is also preceded in death by Leo's family who all loved her dearly. Her father-in-law, Jonas Clinton Cook, her mother-in-law, Jewel Venice Cook, brothers-in-law, Jimmy Allen Cook, Roland D. Cook, Sisters in law, Barbara Carpenter and Audrey J. Cook whom have many nieces and their children.
We were unable to have a respectful funeral and burial due to the Chinese Plague and among other things. Our small family was together, we said all of our blessings and Linda would have said, "well done" and I say "WE will never forget you."
Say "Good Night Here on Earth and Good Morning in Heaven." I will miss you forever and ever, I Love you more than I can say."
In Lieu of flowers or gifts, donations or gifts to childhood cures in the name of Linda would be to her liking. Thank you.
Leo
