Barbara Stuart Obituary

Barbara L. Stuart

October 29, 1938 - April 29, 2025

Barbara L. Stuart, 86, of Sioux City, IA, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025, with her daughters, Wendy and Ralane, present. She was received for judgment after a long battle with dementia. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Born in Sioux City, IA, October 29, 1938, to Eldon and Corrine (Fett) Strandburg, she was later raised by her stepfather, Clarence Saline, after Eldon's passing. Barbara attended Woodrow and East High School.

Barbara married the love of her life, Edward (Stu) , in Elk Point, SD. Three daughters eventually joined the happy couple and formed a family. Barbara was employed by Kraft Foods and later A&A Photo.

She and her husband had a treasured lifelong love and shared awareness of the importance of time spent with family and friends. They enjoyed travel (Barb won a trip to Europe) and deepened their faith through the Church of Christ. Barbara was never whole after Stu left her side in 2019.

Throughout the years, Barbara was the family caretaker beginning with her brothers and most recently, her mother. Being in her care while ill was the greatest comfort to her girls who still desire her back rubs when not feeling well.

Barbara was a Brownie leader, Sunday school teacher and was known for her fried chicken and potato salad. She was the Queen of Idioms, Grammar Police, and ice skating, cartwheels, Aggravation, jump roping and calling her daughters in by whistling were trademarks. Barbara sewed clothes and upholstered the family van that Stu customized for travel. She had a radiant smile, was quick to laugh and was a young grandma who played on the floor with her grandkids.

Left to carry on Barb's propensity for family, caregiving and cooking are Wendy Stuart and Marshall (Butch) Miller of Saginaw, MI, Shelly (Ed) Koster of Lake View, IA, and Ralane Probasco of Sioux City. Barbara also leaves 7seven grandchildren and spouses, 18 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Al) Haskins of Raleigh, NC, Sylvia Saline of Sioux City, Judy Strandburg of Schleswig, IA, and Linda (Roger) Hewitt of Anthem, AZ; a special cousin, Kathy Fischer of Sioux City; and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; parents; parents-in-law, Lilah Skalby and Harold and Georgia Stuart; brothers, Larry Strandburg and Ronald Saline; sister-in-law, Georgia Stuart; brother-in-law Jess Razo; a nephew, niece and great-granddaughter.

As they did everything together in life, Ed wished to await Barb for interment.

Graveside services will be held May 15, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. A joint Celebration of Life with dinner will follow at HBA, 3900 Stadium Drive, Sioux City, until 6 p.m.

Donations can be made to St. Croix Hospice, Church of Christ or the Alzheimer's Association.
