Cecil Harold Lang was born Aug. 3, 1932, to Chris and Clara (Krause) Lang on the family farm east of Hinton. He attended school in Lincoln Township until he started farming with his dad at age 14. He was later drafted into the United States Army where he served until he returned to the family farm.

On Jan. 4, 1959, Cecil was joined in marriage to Carol Jean Brink at Melbourne EUV church near Hinton. The couple lived on the family farm for their entire marriage, where they worked hard and raised their two sons, Brian and Steve.

In addition to farming the land he loved, Cecil was a life-long volunteer in agriculture. As a young man, he started leading the Lincoln Toppers 4-H Club along with Harold Binneboese and received the Honorary 4-H Member Award for 35 years of service. Both of his sons were active 4-H-ers as well. A highlight was chaperoning a busload of youth in 1984 for a 4-H Citizenship Trip to Washington D.C.

Cecil was very active in the Plymouth County Fair where he served in various superintendent role of the dairy barn for more than 30 years, sat on the Fair board, and received the Plymouth County Fair Hall of Fame Award in 2001.

His years of service also included the County 4-H Committee, the Extension Council, the Farm Service Board, and he was a 66-year Farm Bureau Member. The couple received the Farm Bureau Service to Agriculture Award in 1999.

Cecil belonged to Casper American Legion Post 477 and served as the Commander. He was elected to the Plymouth County VA board and served for several years.

With his quick smile and sense of humor, Cecil never met a stranger. His faith, family and friends were the foundation of his life. He was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton where he worshipped and served as a trustee. In 2021, the Langs received the Farm Bureau Century Farm Award, and Cecil was born in the home in which he lived his entire life. Thanks to the devotion of his wife Carol, he was able to stay at home through his final days and died there peacefully with his family by his side.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Hinton; two children Brian of Dakota City, and Steven (Greta) of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren Hilary (Nick) Van Erem of Ankeny, Natalie Allen of Humboldt, and Austin Lang of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren Pearl, Eddie, Landon, Aiden and Sawyer; brothers-in-law Darwin and Bob Brink; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Clara; sister Maycele (Elroy); and brother Maynard (Bonnie).

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Croix Hospice and Visiting Angels for the care and comfort they provided for Cecil.

Lang Family, I am sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed anytime I was able to run into Cecil and talk with him. He always had a smile on his face. I was one of the fortunate ones that was able to be chaperoned on the 4-H trip to DC. He made that trip so much fun and I can still remember that giant Ice Cream Sundae he had. We talked about that trip and sundae whenever I would run into him.

Carol and family, sorry to hear of the passing of Cecil. I was sorry that I was not able to make it to the visitation or the funeral. I have many fond memories of neighborhood gatherings and of the affection that Cecil would always show to everyone. He was always there to lend a hand in anyway that he could. May your many memories stay with you and help to ease your pain now and for many days to come.

Carol, Brian, and Steve,
You all have my deepest sympathy for the loss of Cecil. It was a pleasure to know him and he had an impact on so many people throughout his life. He was a true teacher and mentor. He always helped so many 4Hers at the Fair and thru yearly activities. He devoted lots of his time and efforts at Casper Post 477 and was a joy to be around at Legion events, and I Thank him and Carol for all they do. I enjoyed talking with him and he had a wealth of knowledge about everything. It was special to have the connection of his brother-in-law, Bob "Bronco" at the 185th watching out for Steve and I. He will be missed, but so many people will remember him making the world a better place. May he rest in eternal peace.

Carol and family....I had such a great group on the Plymouth County Fair Board to work with when I was 4H and Youth Director for Plymouth County. Cecil was always a fun person to talk with and always eager to help with anything I needed. That fair was always "something to brag about" because of all the great people that were on the board to work with. I live in my home town now, Berthoud, Colorado, close to the mountains. I send my sympathy to you and your family and I know he will be missed. Great memories with him! Virginia Huppe (Bitterly)
