Ethan J. "Koda" Dodds, 31 of Alamosa, CO. passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at CommonSpirit Penrose Hospital in CO Springs, CO.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Salida, CO. Immediately following the Mass the family will host a gathering at the Salida Rotary Scout Hut located at 210 E Sackett Ave, Salida, CO. A second Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025 at Riverside Lutheran Church 1817 Riverside Blvd, Sioux City, IA. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch following at the church. Burial will be at St. Cornelius Cemetery in Homer, Neb.
Ethan was born on June 12, 1994 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Chad and Ann (Murray) Dodds. In 1999 at the age of 5, Ethan moved with his family to Salida CO. Ethan attended Elementary, Middle School and High School in Salida, graduating in 2013. Ethan was attending Adam State University in Alamosa, CO. He was in his second semester as a freshman and was majoring in Psychology.
Growing up in Salida, CO, Ethan spent his winters at Monarch Mountain. He enjoyed skiing and snowboarding with his friends and worked as a ski instructor for a few of those winters. Ethan loved Monarch Mtn. so much he had a Monarch tattoo on his forearm. Every summer Ethan went on camping trips with his family that often included; hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and river rafting.
From a young age, Ethan loved to draw and the Art class he was taking at Adam State was one of his favorites. So much so that he was considering Art as his minor and one day specializing in Art Therapy.
Having a later start to his academic career Ethan "Koda" quickly became a big brother to many of his classmates. Koda's apartment on campus became a home away from home for many of his friends. Koda was a fantastic cook and often cared for his friends by cooking them dinner.
During his short time at Adam State University Ethan "Koda" made a large impact on the campus community with close friends and close faculty relationships.
Ethan was survived by his parents, Chad and Ann Dodds; sister Stacia Dodds; fiance Kathy Duran of Monte Vista, Colo.; grandparents John and Melinda Dodds of Sioux City, Iowa; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Ethan was preceded in death by his grandparents Lynard and Mary Murray of Sioux City, Iowa; grandparents Beverly and Frank Rivers of Raleigh, NC.; and uncle John Dodds Jr. of Sioux City, Iowa.
