Iona Jane Kimbell, 80, a beloved matriarch and a cherished presence in the lives of many, passed away peacefully at her home on November 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A Visitation to honor Iona's memory will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. A Funeral Service celebrating her life will take place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City. Private burial will take place at the Wakefield City Cemetery.
Born on April 30, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Margery (Springer) Stricklett, Iona's journey was defined by her unwavering love for her family and her passion for life.
Iona's professional contributions reflected her warm spirit and strong work ethic. She began her career as an elevator operator for Younkers, where she met her soulmate, Merlyn, a football star at Allen High School and Morningside College. Their love blossomed, culminating in a beautiful marriage on April 5, 1963, at the Assembly of God Church in South Sioux City. Iona later served as the secretary for First Presbyterian Church, embodying grace and dedication in her roles. One of her proudest ventures was owning and operating her beloved boutique, The English Garden, a haven where her artistic talents shone through her floral arranging and decorating skills.
Throughout her life, Iona cultivated a variety of interests that showcased her creativity and warmth. She found joy in gardening, cooking, and shopping, and was known for her impeccable eye for design. A member of the South Sioux City PEO, Iona, took pride in her community contributions and the friendships she formed through her involvement.
Iona is survived by her beloved husband, Merlyn Kimbell; her daughter Kimberly and son-in-law Edward Clark of Parker, Colo.; her son Joe Kimbell of South Sioux City; her cherished grandchildren: Andrew and Alexander Clark, Katia, Kierson, Conner, Quinn, Harrison, and Rubianne Kimbell; and her great-grandchildren: Niall, Callen, Elliot, Julian, Janeya, and Oliver. They will forever remember her love, laughter, and the countless ways she enriched their lives.
Iona was preceded in death by her loving parents Claude "Buck" and Margery Stricklett, her son Kevin Kimbell, and her dear sisters Loralee Swanson and Jean Meyer.
Iona Jane Kimbell's legacy of love, creativity, and resilience will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to bloom like the flowers she so lovingly arranged, bringing beauty and warmth to all who remember her.
