John Raymond Jacobs, Sr., 78, of Correctionville passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at a local hospital.
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Grace Lutheran Church of Correctionville with Pastor John Riebhoff officiating. Burial will be at the Correctionville Cemetery of Correctionville with military rites conducted. A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville is in charge of the arrangements.
John Raymond Jacobs, Sr. was born June 22, 1942, at the Schriner farmhouse near Correctionville to Clifford and Wanda (Ashmore) Jacobs. John was homecoming king of his 1960 graduating class at Correctionville High School. After graduation he joined the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, Calif., for four years. After returning home from the Navy, John worked at the Standard Station for 18 years, then became the River Valley Community School District's transportation director.
On Jan. 9, 1962, John was united in marriage to Gayle Goodmanson at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Correctionville. They were blessed with four children. John loved to garden. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had been active with the Boy Scouts of America.
John is survived by his wife, Gayle of Correctionville; children, John "Buck" (Nancy) Jacobs of Correctionville, Bob "Bubba" (Nancy) Jacobs of Hermiston, Ore., Sue (Scott) Durrenberger of Lavaca, Ark., and Carmen (Todd) Martin of Danbury, Iowa; grandchildren, David (Noelle) Jacobs of Elk Point, S.D., Megan (Newt) Lingenfelter of Clarion, Iowa, Kayla (Jonathan) Erwin of Hoit, Kan., Ashley Durrenberger (Logan Clements) of Greenwood, Ark., Alyssa (Jatessa) Martin of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Kelsi (Kyle) Schneckloth of Cushing, Iowa, and Cody (Sierra) Jacobs of Hermiston; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Rowse of Correctionville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Wanda; grandparents, Fred and Sadie Jacobs, and Fred and Marie Ashmore; brother-in-law, Tom Rowse; aunts and uncles, Fred and Doris Briese, and Wayne and Wilma Jacobs.
